Lupus Initiative

A continuing partnership with the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) since 2015 has given 20 AHEC centers the opportunity to provide Lupus networking, education, and resources to under-resourced, high-risk communities. Lupus is a serious and potentially life-altering disease for those who have it. Unfortunately, lupus is also severely misdiagnosed and underdiagnosed in Hispanic, Black, and Native American populations. To address this provider practice gap NAO and ACR have worked to implement learning and networking sessions; building awareness of the disease and building relationships with practicing rheumatologists.
