NAO UPDATE | Provided as a Member Benefit January 18th, 2018

Reporting to you from the Board of Directors

On Tuesday, January 16, I had the privilege to tour the office of our management association, Association Executive Group (AEG) and meet with many members of the staff who are all based in Wisconsin. AEG manages our finances, membership, oversees production of our digital communications for communications support. These services include the NAO Weekly Update electronic newsletter, e-mail blasts, and website maintenance and development.

Thanks to the work of Stephanie Hazen, graphic designer, and Kayla White, communications specialist, who are developing our web microsite (pictured below) for the new AHEC Scholars page, which is almost ready to go live. After our discussions yesterday, we decided to make a few upgrades before we launch the site, so, please stay tuned...

Later that day, Denise Harris, AEG owner/president, Kayla White and I visited the Milwaukee AHEC. This site visit provided a chance to meet the AHEC center staff, and to hear from other center directors in Wisconsin. Denise and Kayla were very pleased to have the opportunity for an AHEC site and to learn firsthand from the staff. It was an educational experience for all of us and I also brought back ideas for our center. Thank you to Azure’De Williams and her staff at Milwaukee AHEC for hosting and coordinating this site visit and orientation for us.

Final Reminder: The 2018 NAO Biennial Conference call-for-proposals extended deadline is this week on Friday, January 19! Thank you for all the proposals that have been submitted, we are very pleased to see the positive response and compelling work of AHEC programs and centers that will be showcased this summer in DC!

Wow! Webinar attendance breaks records
Our HPV webinar for health professionals last week broke some attendance records! Nearly 1,200 individuals registered and – with our normal retention rate - 600 individuals attended! We had to expand our Adobe Connect license to accommodate and what a good problem to have! Thanks to everyone who helped in promoting this webinar. Think of all of those people who not only were educated on HPV but also learned about what we do as AHECs!

Next HPV webinar especially useful for student education
Here we go again! Here’s our next HPV webinar for you to promote to health professionals and students in your area! CME/CE credit is pending.

    Vendor and Exhibitor Opportunities

    Dear Centers and Program Offices

In an effort to have a STRONG show of vendors and exhibitors at the 2018 National AHEC Conference, we are asking each of you to submit names of companies and organizations you work with in your daily AHEC operations that we can approach as potential sponsors and exhibitors. Even local companies have the ability to market and sell to a larger audience, so we would love to know what who you work with!

For example, in Missouri, we all do dissection activities with our high school students, so and we mostly all use Carolina Biological for supplies and specimens. This is an online company we could reach out to see if they’re interested in having a booth to directly market to other centers around the nation with similar high school programs. And in Tampa Florida, they’ve used the same local print shop for years and years – we can ask the manager there if she’d sponsor the conference badges, lanyards, or other promotional items. (Don’t worry if a company you work with doesn’t seem like a “fit” -- the Conference Planning Committee can review your suggestions and make those determinations).

So please submit your ideas to Becky Schlevensky at b.schlevensky@nationalahec.org or 414-908-4953 Ext. 111 right away. Include the company/organization names, brief descriptions of how you work with them, and the names/emails of any contacts you have. Becky will follow up with them directly or reach out to their marketing/sales departments.
