NAO UPDATE | Provided as a Member Benefit July 25, 2017

From the CEO's Office

I will start with an apology for missing last week’s update. I had a medical emergency that has been resolved.

We are happy to report that the trip to DC to spend time with our folks at the Health & Medicine Counsel of Washington. They are happy to report that as of this writing AHEC was in the House Appropriations budget at our current levels! We are in Senate negotiations now. Our trip to DC was to spend time with key members of Congress to tell them the AHEC story and offer our education to them on our mission. Here is a shot of the NAO leadership in DC.

Jacqueline Rollins Wynn- President of the Board
Paula Overfelt - President Elect
Kristina E. Fjeld-Sparks - Public Policy Committee Chair
Jack Register - CEO

The Health & Medicine Counsel of Washington has worked with NAO for many years as our legislative voice and offers to us a great deal of expertise and insight. As a new member of leadership, I spent some time asking other organizations who know HMCW about their experiences. I found that the other organizations who know them to whom I am connected find them to be forthright and quite good at getting the meetings set and doors opened for their clients. I was told that many find the HMCW to be exemplary in their ability to explain the policy process to stakeholders. In fact, HMCW was featured in a Washington Post article. Please save the dates of July 8-11, 2018 for the next NAO Biennial Conference in 2018.

Special Interest Groups

Please keep the momentum going on the NAO SIGs — I know that they have been useful! Remember: anyone can add a SIG and work with AHEC colleagues from anywhere in the country. It may make sense to create more SIGs regarding AHEC redesign with a focus on practice transformation. If there is interest, we can supply a dial-in number and log-in for those interested in sharing information and resources.
