Apply to this grant on the grants.gov website.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2017 Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program. The AHEC Program develops and enhances education and training networks within communities, academic institutions, and community-based organizations. In turn, these networks support BHW's strategic priorities to increase diversity and distribution among health professionals, enhance health care quality, and improve health care delivery to rural and underserved areas and populations.

Entities eligible for the Infrastructure Development (ID) phase include accredited schools of allopathic or osteopathic medicine, incorporated consortia of such schools, or the parent institutions of such schools. With respect to states in which no AHEC Program is in operation, an accredited school of nursing is eligible to apply.

Entities eligible for Point of Service Maintenance and Enhancement (POSME) phase include entities that have previously received AHEC Program funding from HRSA for more than 12 years.

Vaccine Hesitancy webinar

Get the New Year off to a great start by offering an extraordinary training program! We are very pleased to offer our next webinar aimed at health professionals, "The Immunity Community: Evidence-Based Strategies for Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy," at 3 p.m. ET, Thursday, Jan. 26. Todd Faubion, PhD, and Mackenzie Melton, MPH, of the non-profit WithinReach, will share lessons learned in a three-year intervention that engaged parents to advocate in favor of immunizations in their communities and review strategies that have been shown, with statistical significance, to change immunization attitudes and beliefs. There is no continuing education credit associated with this presentation, however, attendees can request a certificate of attendance. Please promote this webinar to health professionals, medical office staff and health professions students in your networks. Those interested professionals may use this link to register: http://nao-ntc.adobeconnect.com/immunitycommunity/event/registration.html.

Special Interest Groups

Please keep the momentum going on the NAO SIGs — I know that they have been useful! Remember: anyone can add a SIG and work with AHEC colleagues from anywhere in the country. It may make sense to create more SIGs regarding AHEC redesign with a focus on practice transformation. If there is interest, we can supply a dial-in number and log-in for those interested in sharing information and resources.

Here's the link to the growing spreadsheet; and remember, you can edit and add areas of interest.
