NAO UPDATE | Provided as a Member Benefit August 9, 2017

From the CEO's Office

NAO Colleagues, as a reminder we will be changing the Monday Update effective immediately to become the NAO Weekly Update. This will allow us the capacity to keep you informed of what is happening in the NAO community in a more consistent way!

Our conference planning for 2018 is well underway and we will be back in Washington DC for the 2018 Biennal Conference. Save July 8-11, 2018 now! More details to come!

We have learned this week that the Senate is not taking up the Budget debate anytime soon. Our colleagues at the health & Medicine Counsel Washington tell us it could be September before we see any movement from the Senate. As previously reported however, the House passed its budget with AHEC funded at last year’s levels. The movement in the House and the fact that AHEC was funded at last year’s levels is extraordinary; many of the Title VII programs did not fare as well. We have a lot to be thankful for. Telling the AHEC story won us the House support.

The HPV Vaccine is Cancer Prevention Champion Award – Consider a Nomination

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI), and the American Cancer Society (ACS) are partnering to recognize immunization providers who are successfully preventing HPV cancers, through timely vaccination of their young adolescent patient population. The program will serve to motivate clinicians to adopt effective recommendation practices, and help educate clinicians on the individual- and practice-level changes that can improve rates. By recognizing clinicians with high HPV vaccine rates, we hope the program also serves to reinforce for parental audiences that HPV vaccination is an important part of cancer prevention and a normal part of adolescent immunization. Please keep the momentum going on the NAO SIGs — I know that they have been useful! Remember: anyone can add a SIG and work with AHEC colleagues from anywhere in the country. It may make sense to create more SIGs regarding AHEC redesign with a focus on practice transformation. If there is interest, we can supply a dial-in number and log-in for those interested in sharing information and resources.

Here's the link to the growing spreadsheet; and remember, you can edit and add areas of interest.
