NAO UPDATE | Provided as a Member Benefit July 6, 2015

From the CEO's Office

I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable July 4th holiday. Summer is now officially in full swing here in Rhode Island and I hope you all have an opportunity to enjoy some down time in the coming weeks.

I'll be in Atlanta for a few days later this week with our NAO HPV team and most of the ten HPV regional coordinators for meetings with the CDC and our project partners at the American Cancer Society offices. We'll have an afternoon of dedicated NAO HPV team meetings and then a day and a half of meetings with project partners and CDC project leads for the HPV project which is being considered as a 'reverse site visit'. We'll get a chance to meet, work with and strategize with the CDC as well as with our partners on the HPV project. I'm looking forward to seeing my NAO colleagues and meeting representatives from the CDC and from our partner organizations in person. More details to come following the meetings.

Leveraging the Social Determinants of Health: What Works?

Below is an interesting report (link) from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation and shared by 'The Mobile Health Map Project' regarding leveraging the social determinants of health to improve health outcomes--which seems to be a topic of much discussion at HRSA and the Bureau of Health Workforce recently. 'The Mobile Health Map Project' is a collaboration of academia and direct service providers across the nation. The core team of 'Mobile Health Map' includes Mobile Health Clinics Association (MHCA) and The Family Van in Boston, with support from Harvard Medical School and the Department of Health and Human Services. Please take a look at the article-- I'm interested in hearing your thoughts:

HPV Immunization Project

Joie West

Evaluation webinar tentatively scheduled

An HPV project evaluation webinar has been tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 23, for Regional Coordinators and State Entity representatives. Look for the official registration link in your email soon.

Regional Coordinator personnel change

We want to welcome a new Regional Coordinator! Joie West, center director at Southeast Regional AHEC in Michigan, is the new regional coordinator for her region which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. She takes over for Terra Birsen who is leaving AHEC. West has been involved in the project from the beginning so the transition should be seamless.

New maps and logos in the works

Michael Plumb, a communications consultant for NAO, has submitted drafts of a new project logo as well as regional maps for the project webpages. We are excited about what we’ve seen so far and are confident it will add to the overall professional, branded look to the project and the webpage.
