From the CEO's Office

I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend! It's a busy few weeks ahead so I'm glad I had a chance to get away to Vermont for the weekend. I was on a 2-person relay team at the Vermont City Marathon and ran with a first year medical student as a fundraiser for the University of Vermont Cancer Center. As usual it was a great day!

This week the National Training Center HPV team will be putting the finishing touches on the Year 2 CDC continuation proposal as well as completing the no-cost extension by a May 29th deadline. The overall project is shaping up quite nicely with a wonderful team of Regional Coordinators on board and who are starting to connect with the state AHEC entities in their respective regions. There are already a few trainings scheduled. For updated information about the project please be sure to occasionally check the NAO website under the "Initiatives" > "NTC".

I'll be Washington, D.C. for most of next week for a variety of meetings and a presentation at the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved annual conference and workforce forum. At the ACU conference I'll be providing an overview of NAO and the AHEC Program and the role AHECs play in workforce recruitment and retention. I'll be meeting with the Acting Director of the National Indian Health Board and staff from the Division of Specialized Information Services at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda. Many thanks to Dr. David Garr for connecting me with one of his colleagues who helped to arrange the meetings as a way to promote and highlight the activities of NAO and the AHEC Program. I'll share results of the meetings here in next week's update.

"Tuesdays with Trachtenberg"

The next "Tuesdays with Trachtenberg" call will be Tuesday June 9th from 12:30--1:30pm EST.

On our call last week we discussed the NAO Orlando Business Summit and the need to keep the energy alive, as well as how we can consider supporting hosted AHECs and Program Offices from an entrepreneurial perspective. Dial in at:
