1. From the Executive Director's Office
Last week was a mostly quiet week given April break, though the energy and excitement regarding the Charlotte conference is growing. The NAO 2014 Charlotte Conference is going to be incredible and you do not want to miss a moment!

We have a great week of keynote presentations, workshop sessions, networking activities, and many fun surprises planned. Be sure to register and book your hotel room now. If you're thinking of sneaking out early, don't! The end of the week is going to be just as fun and useful as the beginning. I KNOW that you will not want to miss Dr. Brian Sick's keynote address, the Federal HRSA report, or my "NAO State of the State Address" (critics are already hailing the early editions of the talk as "brilliant," "promises to be the talk of the year," "enlightening and insightful," and "thankfully not mind-numbingly boring").

In all seriousness, do make plans to attend the full conference; it's going to be great! Many thanks to the Conference Planning Committee; they have been working double- and triple-time to make sure we have a top-notch event planned. You can learn more and register here.

If you have any questions, please check in with me, NAO Conference Co-Chairs Jacqueline Wynn or Daphne Byrd, or Paul Rossmann at NAO Headquarters.

I look forward to seeing YOU in just 10 short weeks!

Have a great week!

Rob

Become a Sponsor of the NAO Annual Conference
The National AHEC Organization is very excited about our upcoming conference taking place in Charlotte, NC from July 7 - 11, 2014, and we would like to offer you the opportunity to be a sponsor for this great event. As a member of the AHEC community, you recognize the value of NAO as an organization--and the large audience that our bi-annual conference draws. The NAO conference has provided outstanding learning and networking opportunities for the AHEC community for many years. Indeed, the NAO organization has helped to build and develop our community and has created a unique forum for learning and sharing of information for all AHEC professionals. The bi-annual conference continues to provide practical ideas and real take-away value to its attendees through workshops, roundtables, keynote speakers, and sessions led by our members and experts from among the AHEC community. The 2014 conference will continue this tradition and expansion--as we expect another year of record-setting attendance! In its 15 years, NAO has been able to build this community and create these information-sharing and educational opportunities--largely through the generous contributions of its Symposium Sponsors--from individuals and organizations, to our large community of AHEC program and center offices. Our sponsors have helped make it possible to avoid increasing dues, imposing publication fees, or charging for meals at the conference. In order to continue this, we need your help in sponsoring the 2014 NAO Conference! As a sponsor of the 2014 NAO Conference, you will have exclusive opportunity to reach our targeted 550+ conference attendees, while showing your continued support for NAO! The opportunity to reserve your sponsorship for the 2014 conference is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sponsoring one or more conference activities places your name in front of the attendees in the Conference Program, on the NAO Conference Website, and on sponsor signage displayed during the chosen event. Secure your Sponsorship by May 2, 2014. Click here to see the Sponsorship Opportunities document. Please contact Jill Tucker to explore your options or if you have any questions at sponsorship@nationalahec.org or 414-908-4953 x111.

Marketplace Update
Once the marketplace curriculum has been cleared by HRSA, several trainings will be scheduled. We are tentatively looking at April 28-May 15 for the curriculum to be released. Stay tuned! To receive credit for trainings you've already done, simply fill out and submit the marketplace documentation form to A-TrACC following each marketplace presentation. (If you don't have a copy, just ask!) It's only 5 questions! Your center or program office will also need to report these CE activities on your HRSA Performance Report under the primary topic area Health Reform/Health Insurance Marketplaces. It's that easy!

Field Guide Online
The revised A-TrACC Field Guide is now available online! This was updated in March 2014 to align with the most recent HRSA performance measure reporting manual. Prefer the Field Guide in a Word format so you can modify and adapt the forms? Email info@atracc.org. Not sure what the guide is all about? Watch our Field Guide Revisions training! A-TrACC is currently revising the accompanying Excel spreadsheets that you can use to organize and aggregate data collected with the Field Guide forms. These will be shared in a webinar as soon as completed. Stay tuned!

Medicaid Basics Webinar
How does the Affordable Care Act impact providers? How does the Health Insurance Marketplace interact with Medicaid? Seema Verma, MPH, founder of SVC, Inc., will be the presenter for "Understanding Medicaid, the Marketplace, and the Affordable Care Act" Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. Eastern. Register Now. Ms. Verma served as the architect of the Healthy Indiana Plan—the nation's first Health Savings Account model applied to a Medicaid population. She has more than 16 years of health care experience and has in-depth knowledge of government health programs on the local, state and federal levels.

5. Diagnosis and Management of Post-Traumatic Headache Webinar May 8, 2014; 1:00-2:30 p.m. (EDT)
New: DCoE webinars now offer APA-accepted, North Carolina Psychology Board and NASW continuing education contact hours, in addition to AMA, ANCC, NBCC and IACET credit.

Headache is one of the most common persisting symptoms after traumatic brain injury (TBI) across all levels of injury severity. Recent research in both civilian and military sample populations has improved the understanding of the prevalence and pathogenesis of the problem after TBI. However, little research has yet to be conducted on treatments for post-traumatic headache. This webinar will review the current research on post-traumatic headache and how symptoms of headache can assist with diagnosis. Current recommendations for treatment of post-traumatic headache also will be described.

Continuing education credit is available from Duke Medicine. You must register on or before May 8, 2014, at 3 p.m. (EDT) to qualify for the receipt of continuing education credit.

For guidance on creating a user account and event registration in the Duke Medicine Learning Management System site, please click here. For additional details, please visit here. Sign up for the webinar here.

6. The National Economic Impact of Physicians Report
Physicians can have a positive and lasting impact on the health of their patients and the health of the community as a whole. However, the breadth of a physician's impact reaches far beyond just the provision of patient care. This can be observed by community and state economic benefits (e.g., job creation, purchase of goods/services, and public program support via tax revenues). This report focuses on physicians (both doctors of medicine (MDs) and doctors of osteopathy (DOs) who are primarily engaged in patient care activities (as compared to those who focus on research or teaching, for example). Click here to see the report.

Mission Statement: The National AHEC Organization supports and advances the AHEC Network to improve health by leading the nation in the recruitment, training and retention of a diverse health workforce for underserved communities.

Vision: Our vision is that the AHEC network is the national leader in developing a highly competent and diverse health care workforce for underserved populations.
