Start Planning
It's hard to believe, but the NAO 2014 Conference in Charlotte, NC is only three months away! It's time to START PLANNING YOUR TRIP TO THE 2014 NATIONAL AHEC CONFERENCE IN CHARLOTTE, NC! The NAO Conference Planning Committee has done an outstanding job in developing a tremendous agenda for you all. This is a conference you DO NOT want to miss; please refer to the e-blast that went out last week (4/1/14) for details. Spring seems to have sprouted in most parts of the country, and thoughts of spring lead to thoughts of summer, which, of course, means it's the perfect time to take a moment and think about our exciting upcoming conference taking place in beautiful Charlotte, NC. More details on the event will follow very soon. Please contact me or any member of the planning committee if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to seeing YOU in just three short months!

Washington, D.C. Update
Thank you all for making calls last week to your Congressional Delegation asking Members to support funding for the AHEC program at $75 million in their appropriations request for FY2015. I know the past few weeks have been incredibly busy and I very much appreciate the extra effort and time it took to make the calls. We need to keep it up and ensure that we're regularly in touch with our Congressional Delegation regarding the effectiveness and impact of our AHECs. I'll be back on the Hill in early May to visit with members of the House and Senate Labor-HHS Appropriations Sub-Committee, as well as with members of the Full Appropriations Committee. As those visits get scheduled, the NAO Public Policy Leadership Team will be in touch with AHEC state advocacy leaders (who are doing a great job; thanks!!!) to make calls in advance of my meetings.

NAO PR and Social Media
You may have noticed that the NAO and AHEC presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ has dramatically increased in recent days. Thanks to a comprehensive social media and PR strategy by the NAO Communications Committee and our communications consultant Mike Plumb, expanded updates and information regarding NAO and AHEC activities have been shared across a variety of social media platforms which results in greater visibility for NAO and our AHECS. The NAO website is increasingly updated as well, as the feeds from Facebook are posted under the "Latest News" section. Also, you will see additional blog posts from me, too (as soon as I can find more time!). I'd love to hear your feedback, and please be sure to "Like" the National AHEC Organization Facebook page and follow our Twitter feed, too!

We've heard from a lot of you about what you're doing not only to educate health professionals on the health insurance marketplace, but also on consumer outreach and enrollment! We would like to recognize your efforts in our quarterly report to HRSA. Want to make sure your AHEC information is included? Marketplace Curriculum Update
We're getting closer to having the curriculum ready for you! The state fact sheets are just about ready. The PowerPoint presentation is currently going through the HRSA review process. We still expect the curriculum to be released this Spring. As soon as we get it, we will pass it on to you. Promise! We're just as anxious as you are! Still thinking about joining us? More than 110 AHECs are participating in the marketplace project to train health professionals and staff on the health insurance marketplace. We are approaching capacity for this project.
