1. From the Executive Director's Desk
NAO Spring Conference

I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the NAO Spring Meeting in just 2 short weeks! I was reflecting the other day on how long it's been since we've all been together; over 7 months will have passed since the San Antonio NAO conference last summer when we meet in early April. There's so much going on right now; it's a very exciting time to be doing the work we do. The agenda for the Spring Meeting is excellent and chock-a-block full, as the planning committee did an excellent job in putting together what I believe will be a very useful, informative, and well-structured meeting. I know it will be highly valuable for all.

AHEC Funding for FY13 and FY14
In terms of AHEC funding for FY13, last week the House and Senate passed a Continuing Resolution for the Fiscal Year 2013 budget. The bill has been forwarded to the President to sign. The impact on AHEC funding is not known yet. Work can now begin on the FY 2014 budget. The President is expected to release his FY14 budget on or about April 8.

Health Insurance Exchange Information
The Colorado Health Benefits Exchange has issued an RFA for what they are calling "Assistant Sites and Hubs." This could provide talking points for AHECs who are in states that are not as far along as Colorado, and want to get ahead of the game in proposing their AHEC become the resource of choice, should there be interest. Please see the link here.

Dribs and Drabs
A few items of note that might be worth a quick look:

-Click here for the Health Policy.
-This resource provides information about your state and county's health status.
  2. Click here for Match Day Article: More medical graduates entering primary care (Good news!).

4. Opportunities and Trainings by Other NAO Partners
Webinar: Fostering and Expanding Peer Support Services for Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVH) Wednesday, March 27, 2013; 1:00–2:30 p.m. (EST)

Peer support has been recognized as an important strategy in supporting the behavioral health needs of SMVF. Individuals with experience provide a bridge to services and help ease SMVF transition to their communities. Peers with military experience and experience with recovery from trauma, mental health, or addiction issues offer valuable knowledge and skills to assist others. This support can be provided through a variety of established peer models. Many states have already begun to bring their peer initiatives together across systems and now stakeholders must assess how best to work together. Coordinated systems of peer support services for SMVF can succeed with collaboration and consensus. This webinar will include discussions related to best practice resources and tools, how communities can build on commonalities, and the many roles peers play. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. To register in advance of the event, please click here. If you have any questions about your registration, please contact Michelle Cleary, Project Associate, at mcleary@prainc.com.
